About Lightning Pay
We are a team of Bitcoin enthusiasts in New Zealand, united by our vision to fix the money and provide a low-cost payments platform in NZ and beyond.
When you visit most merchants in NZ it's clear there is an problem with payments. Most merchants have a message at the till passing the costs of card payments onto their customers.
It was during the national Bitkiwi meetups that we discussed how difficult it was to use Bitcoin. As Bitcoiners we were already using Bitcoin as a medium of exchange amongst ourselves, how could we supercharge this for people in NZ and beyond?
Our exploration revealed that the current payment systems in NZ are costly for merchants due to subscription fees, hardware costs and transaction fees. By simplifying Bitcoin acceptance and providing price guarantees at the point of sale, we can alleviate concerns about Bitcoin's volatility, accounting, and taxes.
We realised we had one major problem to solve.
- Making it super quick and easy to go from FIAT currency to Bitcoin and back again
Once we had this problem solved we could add on merchant payments, auto buys, bill payments, smash buys and so on. We could also allow other businesses in NZ to use to our platform to connect their service to the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
In March, we launched our service enabling quick and easy NZD to Bitcoin exchanges. April saw the debut of our hosted payments solution, followed by our merchant point-of-sale system in May. We launched our Bill payment service in June.
Our mission is to make life easier for people and businesses by enabling an easy connection to the Bitcoin Lightning Network, and with your support, we can make this a reality.
