The founding team at Lightning Pay, Rob, Brandon and Simon, recently joined Darcy Ungaro on the NZ Everyday Investor Podcast. It was a great conversation covering our thesis on bitcoin as superior money for savings and spending, and the future for Lightning Pay.
Listen on to the conversation on your favourite podcast app.
One of the crucial aspects of what we're trying to achieve at Lightning Pay is changing the general framing about Bitcoin in New Zealand. When you talk to people on the street, whether they've dabbled in Bitcoin or other crypto investments, the idea they have around Bitcoin is often misplaced, guided by the media they consume and frankly, the crypto focused businesses they interact with. People see Bitcoin as a short term speculative investment, designed to get you rich overnight. If that's what Bitcoin really was, the common conflation with the world of cryptocurrencies might be a fair assumption.
But, that's not what Bitcoin is. It's better money, and its the only thing out there designed precisely to be just that, better money.
What does that mean? It means that Bitcoin isn't promising you overnight riches. It's offering a superior technology for the use cases of money. Namely, saving, spending, sharing, and yes, ultimately investing.
Throughout our conversation we discuss the tragic reality that we can no longer save in the modern world. How bitcoin solves this problem, and ultimately is beginning to tackle the next use cases of money, spending and sharing. We talk about how Lightning Pay is positioned to deliver access to better money, and how together, we aim to build a new bank in New Zealand. No, Lightning Pay is not a bank, but you can be, and we aim to deliver the financial services that you need to be your own bank, and choose to use better money.
We really enjoyed our time with Darcy on his show, it was a great conversation. Have a listen, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
