Accepting Payments

Lightning Pay has released its first product, a simple, fast, and inexpensive way to buy and sell bitcoin on the Lightning Network.

What comes next is a simple app and service that allows you to accept bitcoin payments on the Lightning Network, and automatically receive NZD the next business day. We aim to eliminate your merchant fees and long settlement times for good.

For now, Lightning Pay’s exchange service for quickly selling bitcoin can serve a similar purpose, if paired with an existing point-of-sale bitcoin app.

There are many ways to accept bitcoin payments via the lightning network for merchants. For over-the-counter retail, these are some of our favorites:

If you’re accepting online payments, or have a need for invoicing, check out:

Some of these options will require a destination wallet for payments (Zaprite, for example). For an overview of bitcoin Lightning Wallets, check out our article.

Now that you’re setup to receive payments, you now may want to swap the bitcoin you’ve received for NZD in your bank account, this is where Lightning Pay’s exchange service comes in, the rest is easy!

In this example, we’ll use Wallet of Satoshi. We’ve collected a $25 today with almost zero fees (less than 0.01%, typically), and those fees have been payed by the purchaser.

If you’ve been invited to the Lightning Pay Closed Beta, you will find an invite to the app in your email inbox. Follow that link to the app to sign in.

Once you’ve arrived at the Lightning Pay App, click “Sign In” in the top right.

Login to your lightning pay account using your email address, and complete the captcha. Click “Sign In with Email.”

Before attempting to sell bitcoin on Lightning Pay, please ensure you’ve connected your bank account to receive NZD payments. You can see this under your “User Name” in the top right, then select, Profile. If you have any issues getting your bank account connected here, please contact support@lightningpay.nz.

Check the Price, Click “Sell” and Enter Amount

Once you are logged in, you’ll land on our main page, where you can check the current value of bitcoin in New Zealand Dollars, and check the amount you will receive for your exchange.

To initiate the sell, click on the “Sell” button at the top of the screen.

Type in the amount you wish to buy in the top line, and click the “Sell” button.

Send Bitcoin

Next, a QR will be shown that will allow you to make the payment in bitcoin.

In your wallet app (Wallet of Satoshi is used here), click “send,” and scan the QR code with your wallet.

Next, you will confirm the payment.

Once your payment is received, your order is complete! We send all NZD user funds at the end of the day, so you should see it in your account by at least the next business day.
